Franny's Farm...

For us, Jeff & Frances Tacy, it is more than the culmination of our childhood experiences spent on farms, riding horses, milking cows, shoveling hay, meandering in the woods; more than our combined education in Forestry, Biology, Religious Studies, Education, Construction and Engineering; more than our love of travel and the great outdoors; more than our hobbies of gardening, cooking, brewing beer, hiking, trail running, welding, building....

"To plant things is to have faith in tomorrow."

Our Story

It was our uncontrollable, cellular, insatiable desire to shift focus homeward and really live as independently and sustainably as possible.

We have been motivated to create our homestead as the heart of our life by the desire for quality food, the love of hands-on work and all the cool things we can learn to do and share with others. Our quest for self-reliance is beginning simply. We started our farm with a field of brambles and eye-level grasses.

We kicked off our building project with a barn-raising and over 100 friends and family joined in the weekend experience. We were able to move in 4 months later to the second floor of our barn.

We breed Katahdin sheep. We also breed & raise heritage poultry (chickens and turkeys) for eggs & meat and do all our own on-site processing. We grow organic produce; have plant fruit trees and bee hives.

We host private & public events and 2 music festivals~ Farm Fest & Asheville BARNAROO.

Phase 1 of our Eco-Cabin Project will be operating spring 2015 with a Kitchen/Bath House and 2 small cabins.

We recognize the connections between good food and good health. We are into healthy bodies, minds and spreading happiness. We welcome EVERYBODY at ANYTIME on Franny’s Farm that wants to be a part of the growing trend toward greater self reliance and sustainability.
